Paveldo institutas

A collective of artists and researchers:Lukas Mykolaitis, Severina Venckutė , Mikas Zabulionis, Julija Račiūnaitė ir Margarita Žigutytė.

Paveldo institutas is a collective of artists and researchers based in Kaunas and represented by Lukas Mykolaitis (b. 1992), Severina Venckutė (b. 1997), Mikas Zabulionis (b. 1993), Julija Račiūnaitė (b. 1989), and Margarita Žigutytė (b. 1992). Formed in 2020, the group explores the processes of archiving that open up the possibility of reactivating knowledge, deconstructing the historical narrative and presenting it as a multi-layered spectrum – from historical geological data to present-day reality or future speculations, from historiographical sources to metaphysical artefacts, dreams or memories.

Artwork "Interface"

In this exhibition, the collective Paveldo institutas present a curated archive – a digital repository called Interface. The main focal point of the work and the research is the Kaunas County Public Library which is currently undergoing reconstruction. Using interdisciplinary techniques and in collaboration with scholars and artists from various fields, Paveldo institutas conducts in-depth research on space and time, trying to reach the most distant perspectives and contexts. The library here becomes a metaphor for the city’s memory, and a convenient space to learn the craft of archiving or to discover alternatives to the normative archive. Video works, collections of archival material, and original texts invite the viewer to experience the flow of knowledge and data. The installation works as both a stationary repository and an active knowledge catcher: the collective will collect new data throughout the exhibition, thus continuously updating and refreshing the Interface.
